Hometown legend Jimmy Connors entered the St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame on April 22, 2017.
Our town has launched a lot of great tennis careers: Wimbledon champs. Elite coaches and officials. Even Dwight
Davis—the Davis Cup founder—got his start right here in St. Louis.
(You can read about their contributions here.)
And then there’s Jimmy.
Jimmy Connors is in a whole other category. With a lethal two-handed backhand he learned from his mother and coach,
Gloria Connors, he thrived on the tour from 1972 into the nineties—spanning three decades.
Take a look at just a few numbers:
- 109 singles titles, eight of them Grand Slam tourneys.
- 159 weeks in a row at # 1, 268 weeks total over his career.
- And 16 straight years—Years!—in the top ten.
And so much more …
Today he spends his time coaching top players, consulting with companies and contributing to worthy causes.
Jimmy gave some clinics the day of his induction.
